To federal and state legislators, regulators, and decisionmakers,  

Stopping toxic PFAS and 1,4-dioxane pollution at the source is important to me, my family, and community so industrial polluters bear the burden of pollution—instead of our drinking water sources, food, farms, small businesses, families, and downstream communities.   

Federal and state agencies can and should stop toxic industrial PFAS and cancer-causing 1,4-dioxane pollution now under existing law, the Clean Water Act, before families and communities are further harmed. We know it’s possible because SELC and Cape Fear River Watch have worked with the state to stop PFAS pollution from Chemours in North Carolina.  

Wastewater treatment plants have the ability and responsibility to stop pollution from industrial sources now before it contaminates drinking water sources, food, and downstream communities.    

All communities deserve protection, including through: 

• Standards that limit PFAS pollution in drinking water; and  

• Designation of PFAS as hazardous substances to clean up past pollution 

Further harm from this toxic pollution is avoidable.  

We expect you as our elected representative, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and our state agencies to uphold and enforce the Clean Water Act to protect people, not industrial polluters.
